Work-it Wednesday

We've posted before about how much we like the collars from Pret a Pawte. They're cute Australian made cotton collars that don't irritate our necks, and somehow manage to withstand the destructive efforts of Suey that have sent many collars to the bin in the past.

 Last week Suey and I ordered new collars. I went for a teal number with white stars.

 I think the colours look cute against my furs.

 Suey went for a pink collar with white flowers.

 I think it looks very pretty on her.

Lishy is still rocking his powder blue collar with black and white cherries. He takes very good care of his collars and it still looks close to brand new. If you're looking for a cool new collar, we recommend having a look at Pret a Pawte.

P.S. We found out about Pret a Pawte from another blog, and bought our first collars ourselves because they had cool patterns and looked like they would be harder for Suey to ruin than the nylon and leather ones we'd tried in the past. We've bought several new ones since, as we were happy with how they lasted and they didn't rub on our skin like others we'd tried. We've not been asked to review them or been given anything in return. We just like to post about them because we think they are a great Australian product, and it's the closest we'll ever get to modelling fashion :)

Fashion Friday

We are excited to model our new collar designs. I am looking very mancatly in my red polka dots. It 'pops' nicely against my tabby furs, I think. Suey went for the Pink Retro Nest design. Her first PretaPawte collar was this same design, and we all thought it looked fabulous on her. So she chose the same design again.

And now, presenting Lishy in his big boy collar. Our little rockstar has black stars. Thankyou to Alison at PretaPawte. We are feeling very stylish. We wont be able to visit much in the next couple of weeks as we will be at Pawpaws, but we have scheduled some posts. We hope you have a very fun happy time until we see you again:)

From the Mum

Today, the Kittenheads have let me use their blog to be a gushy mum. We hit a big milestone with Lishy the other night. Some of you may remember that when we decided Lishy would stay with us for as long as he could, I became obsessed with the notion that he must have a collar from PretaPawte, the same as Fui and Suey had. There was a problem though in that the collars are made to fit necks of 20-30cm (8-12 inches). For Lishy, we needed a collar that would fit a much smaller neck. The lovely Alison made a collar especially for the wee boy, of 12cm (4 3/4 inches). It was the teeniest collar I have ever seen. At the time of ordering, we had been warned that Lishy may not even make it long enough for the collar to be delivered. As Lishy continued to defy the vet's prognosis and grow, we have been letting the collar out. It is now 22cm (8 1/2 inches), and wont go much bigger. On Wednesday, I had the exciting experience of ordering Lishy a new regular sized collar.

I know some will think it is ridiculous to be excited about ordering a collar, but to me, it meant so much more than just something cute for tags to be attached to. Ordering Lishy's collar was a really practical indication of just how far he has come, and how strong he has become.

Today marks 11 months that Lishy has been living with us. He is showing no symptoms of anything other than tiring fairly quickly when he plays. He has been microchipped, fully vaccinated, desexed, and keeps up with the big cats, all things his vet said he wouldn't be capable of. I would like to say thankyou so very very much to all the people, kitties and pups who have commented, purred, sent emails and suggestions, and sent their love out into the world for our boy. I really believe that in addition to his tough spirit, all the positive energy that was aimed at Lishy has helped him get to this point, and I am so very grateful for that.

He is an extraordinary wee boy, and we are blessed to have him in our lives :)

Staying Stylish

With Autumn nearing, I decided it was time for me to change collars to stay fashionable. I visited PretaPawte to view their collection. This season, I decided to go with stripes.

My News

Hello everybuddy,

For my first bit of news, I got the results back on the tests of my blood and my wee. It didn't tell us what is wrong, but it ruled out a lot of what can't be the problem. It's not my kidneys, liver, a blood disorder, an inability to absorb protein or other problem with my digestive tract. The two most likely candidates now are heart failure or cancer. My vet seems to believe a heart problem is the most likely candidate. I am not strong enough for the tests to confirm the diagnosis, as they would require an anaesthetic. My mum is working on ways to try and help me feel stronger.
In better news, I received something awesome!!!! My brother and sister are always bragging
about the PretaPawte collars they got in June. Yesterday, I received one that mum ordered for me! The lovely Alison made it for me because I have such a little neck. It is called the Hippy Swirl collar. Alison, we can't thank you enough for helping us out. I love my collar very much. I have a tag on it from Red Dingo . Because the vet doesn't think I am really strong enough for a microchip, my mum thought it was important that I had ID on me. It is a red tag with a heart on the front, and my name and mum's phone number engraved on the back.

I also wanted to say that when we talk about companies like this on our blog, we do not get payment or free stuff or anything. We have received emails a couple of times asking if we would recommend different things, but we haven't done so. We only recommend things if we genuinely use and love them.

In my last bit of news, my mum doesn't know how to read a calendar. Wordless Wednesday indeed! Hahahah:)

PretaPawte- 3 Months On

Hi kitties:)
This is my first collar, from when I was a tiny little kitten. See the way I shredded it? I am very rough on my collars. I like to scratch and paw at them, and spin them around.
This was my second collar. Fui had the same one in black for 2 years. Mine lasted a month before it became too difficult to do up.
Nearly three months ago, I got a PretaPawte collar. I posted about it here. Mum was getting one for Fui as his old collar was a bit rough on his neck, and thought she might as well get me one too. They were just too cute to turn down! Knowing my collar destroying history, mum was a little bit concerned at how long it would last, especially when she felt how light it was when it arrived.
After three months, this is what my collar looks like. The only bit of damage I have been able to do is a slight pull on the label. The collar itself looks nearly brand new. Mum is so happy with it!
At US$13.50 for a cat collar, it has been fantastic value. During a three month period earlier in the year, I lost or destroyed $40 worth of collars. Also, for each cat collar sold, they donate $1 to the Cat Protection Society, which is where the PretaPawte muse Alvin was adopted from. How cool is that!:)

The little babies are growing. Mum made some kitten slings for when she is moving around with them. Because of our Snugglesafe failure the other night, she put one in the baby box, and they all piled in to use it as a sleeping bag. It was very cute. It is lined in fleece, which reflects body heat.
The babies are very snuggley with each other. I am happy that Harry gets to have his siblings with him. I know how much I loved being reunited with my sibling.
Ron is a bit of a pesky kitten. When the other two are asleep, he will charge straight into them and wake them up. That is the cue for the screaming kitten chorus!
The babies eyes look about ready to open. They are still sealed, but have become quite dark. A few times now, mum and dad have thought there is a little kitten squinting at them. All three are now on bottles. Ron takes a while to start drinking, but looks to be developing quite a good suckling reflex.
Their co-ordination is coming ahead in leaps and bounds. Mum is quite amazed. These are very different kittens to Stella's babies. Mum realises now just how bad the situation was with them. She knows it sounds a bit silly, but likes to think that these three are the three babies who passed away, back for a second chance.

We're Stylin'!

Our mum is a little obsessed with our collars. She wants us to wear them incase we ever get outside again, but is crazy about making sure there is nothing on it that could hurt us. One of Fui's collars had a bit of a rough edge on it, and it gave him a bit of a blister on his neck. Ever since, mum has always been on the look out for good quality, safe collars.

We first saw reference to PretaPawte collars on savvycat, a great Australian based blog. We loved that it was an Australian company and that the collars were handmade, so mum promptly ordered a pair. The collar in the foreground is called Pink Retro Nest, and the one in the background is called Alvin's Favourite. Alvin is the name of the PretaPawte kitty, whose adoption in 2008 prompted the creation of the super stylish line of collars for both cats and dogs. We are thrilled with them. The quality is excellent, and there is not a rough edge to be found. And they are just oh so stylish!
I love my collar.It is lighter and more comfortable than my old ones.
Fui looks good in his too:)
