Thunderstorms!!!!

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

I had to hide under the couch for the duration!!!

Fui doesn't fit under the couch, so he just lay next to it.

He's a good brother.

And thunderstorms are not good! (I have my 'grrrrrrr at thunderstorms' lasers on).
When the clouds finally went away, we got to high five for Temptations.

Mum was over-compensating, and we finished the jar. Yum yum yum!

See how much better Polly is looking! She has a ways to go still, but we're making progress!:) Her sister Sally is next to her, and you can kind of see the difference in size. Polly hit 550grams (1.2 pounds) yesterday, while Sally is just over 800grams.
Do you remember the koala video we posted yesterday? This is how Sam is looking now. Her paws are burned, but they think she will be ready to go back to the bush in about 6-8 months. For now, she is being cared for by the Southern Ash Wildlife Centre.

We are just amazed at how willing she is to get close to people! This is a wild animal!

Sam has made a friend at the Centre, too. Over the past couple of days, roughly 20 koalas have been brought to the centre, along with kangaroos, possums, wallabies and other native animals. Within their own species, koalas are very sociable, and pair up quickly when in the same area.

This is Bob! He arrived at the centre a couple of days before Sam, and the two have become firm friends. Look at him keeping a protective paw over her! :) Bob also has burns to his paws, but they are less severe than Sam's. He should be ready to go back to the bush in about 4 months.

Sam got to meet her saviour, David Tree. They are not sure if Sam recognised him or not, but given how close she let him get in this photo, and the knowledge that koalas are notoriously unfriendly, we think she did. The lady behind them is Colleen Wood, Sam's carer. She believes that Sam would not have made it if not for Mr. Tree's kindness. You can read more about Sam and Mr. Tree's reunion here.

It's almost Finally Friday!! Hooray!!

Thankyou to the CFA

The Country Fire Authority in Victoria is one of the largest volunteer based emergency services in the world. They respond to fire incidents and emergencies, as well as a variety of specialist rescue activities such as urban search and rescue and road accidents.They have been extremely busy with the fires. But still, they have the time to help the animals.

We saw a sweet video of one of the CFA volunteers helping a koala who survived the fire. It is from The Daily Telegraph, and was filmed by another volunteer.

Polly Smitten-Kitten is continuing to get stronger. She is still too skinny, but is eating well, and has new energy in her eyes. It is good to see!:) The others are growing like weeds, but we will keep them for a little while longer, while the shelter's backlog starts to ease a bit. Do any other kitties have experience with broken tails? Polly and Penny both have breaks in their tails. Polly's is up near the tip of the tail, and Penny's is down about 2cms from the base. We're not really worried about Polly's, but Penny's has us wondering. The shelter isn't concerned, and she isn't having any problems with pooping or balance. She also doesn't mind it being touched, and it doesn't seem to hurt her. It is at an angle though! Is that likely to cause her any problems? Mum isn't sure when it happened, either. We've never had a kitten with a broken tail, that we know of.

Rude Lizards

Caught in the act! Lookit these two. Mum and Dad busted them having a fight while they were in Kuranda.

These two were so rude that they even interupted their disagreement so that one of them could poke their tongue out at mum!

The Frilled Neck Lizard got so worked up he puffed up his frill! It does look very effective. Rude lizard #2 turned and ran away.

This is what the lizard's pattern looks like. It is quite pretty, really.

This is a koala. Mum loves koalas. When she was little, she had a toy koala that she would take to school with her.

They are very cute!
