We Have A Favour To Ask

You may have seen on your news or in your papers that much of the east of our country is being ravaged by flood and fire. Ingham, a town to the North of us, is underwater today, and it continues to rain. 131 people are confirmed to have died in the Victorian bushfires. Whole towns have been wiped off the map, and many are injured. 50 fires continue to burn in New South Wales. The numbers of animals who have perished in these disasters will never be known.

We ask for your purrs and prayers for all the people and animals who have been so sadly affected by the natural disasters. We particularly ask for your prayers for the heroic firemen and women, State Emergency Service personnel and emergency response teams, many of whom are volunteers, and for members of the Army and Police who are fighting up and down the east of the nation to try and help as many people as they can. Without them and their dedication, the situation would be far worse.

We will be counting our blessings today. We have heard so much recently about how people are losing everything with the global financial crisis and economic pressures. Today we are reminded that as long as we have our family and we are safe, we have everything.

I am purring and purring for everyone around me who is affected by the fires. My mum works for the department that fights fires here in Victoria and she says it is very scary right now. But we are safe at my house.

It's so sad but something we Australians have had to put up with for centuries. The old poem by Dorothea Mackellar spring to mind. Of course we will be thinking of everyone who is a risk at this difficult time. Take care.

Thanks for reminding us of the scope of this disaster. There is so much sadness down here at the moment. We were glad to hear last night that at least a relief convoy had made it into Ingham to help people out. We'll just keep on purring...

Fui and Suey and mum, we was very upset by the terrible news of the fires, and the sad sad lost of so many loved ones. It has been an awful week, and we like you realise just how very lucky we are.

Sending hugs across the kiwi/aussie sea to you all.
