PhotoHunt- Chipped

The theme for today's is 'Chipped'. We think this is a good theme, because it brings up something very important to us- Microchips. We both have Microchips, we got them when we were little bitty kitties.

I know it sounds a little bit robotic, but it's not really. My eyes are laser-y and bright because I am a cat, not because I have robot parts.

Microchips are especially important to us for a few reasons.
  • We are allowed outside during the day, and if something ever happens, any vet or shelter in our city can find out who we are with a simple swish of a scanner, even if we lose our collar. Our insurance information is linked to the microchip information.
  • We live in a cyclone area. If we need to be evacuated, we have proof that we are the cat on our vaccination and desexing records. It is also another safeguard in case of seperation (over Mum's dead body).
  • We have been vaccinated against FIV. This vaccination means we will test positive on a snap test. If we ever end up in our local shelter, which is a kill shelter, we will be safer than if we were seen as a stray with FIV.
  • Mum volunteers at the shelter, and has seen the difference in time between reclamation times of microchipped cats, compared to cats with just a collar, or who are missing a collar. Sometimes you can see the impression on the furs from collars on some of those cats, but they've lost their id. It makes it very difficult for the shelter to contact anyone. Sometimes people come to the shelter to look for their kitty when it is too late.
  • Our microchip company has a facility where a second emergency contact can be listed on our account. If anything happens to Mum and Dad and we end up in a shelter or lost, the shelter or vet is able to get straight on to someone Mum and Dad trust, and someone who loves us, through the chip company.

All of our fosters are microchipped when they are desexed at approximately 1kg in weight. Mum thinks it is one of the best things you can do for any kitty, and an essential thing for any kitty who goes outside at all. We are clever, and are good at escaping!

Hello! Can you see us waving? It might be a bit tricky as it is dark now.

I like this idea for chipped.

Here are my views of chipped. Have a great weekend!

We are chipped too! It is a furry good thing that you listed the many positive things about it.
Chilli was chipped in November and the chipped wandered from her left neck side to the front of her chest. We have to check if the scanner still finds it... We liked the part of being separated only over your Mom's dead body, hihihi. It is great to be loved like that!

We are both microchipped for all those wonderful reasons, which means it is for our safety and security in the event we ever get lost from Mom and home.

Mom went online and changed our contact info when we moved. It is important to remember to do that when your address, phone number or email address changes.

I love that you've not only contributed to the theme, but provided some great information on microchipping as well. Nicely done.

My contribution doesn't have the public service aspect of yours, but I hope you'll stop by anyway. :0)

We're not chipped...mom's thought about doing it but since we don't go outside she hasn't really done anything about it.

Your laser eyes are like headlights in the night!

What an awesome take on the "chipped theme"! Only some of us are chipped because we had a recent year of losing our older set of family members and we now have a new wave of family that hasn't yet been chipped, so my mom has to get with the program and get our new arrivals chipped. Grete dog is new, but she came with a chip. Thanks for the reminder!

We also thought about our microchip for today's PH theme but then skipped it. As far as Mommy knows there is just a number saved on our chip and nothing else... at least that is what the vet in EG explained her... she always thought there were those information saved which you mentioned now... who knows.

I'm chipped, too, and it sure makes my mom sleep better at night! Oh, and your suggestion-

"Your mum should probably leave some of her water glasses outside for you. Preferably next to a plate of your favourite treats. And maybe with some toys too. And a blanket. That's really not much to ask."

I AGREE! She should be doin' all that WITHOUT ME ASKIN'!

I'll bring this up at my earliest convenience.

That is a clever idea, I never knew they had those for animals but it is about time. Is it an expensive procedure? Well worth it.

This is en excellent message. We are all microchipped, and Mommy feels so much better to know that she could be contacted if we ever got lost.

Love the laser eyes. I think it's neat that animals are microchipped, but I'm not keen on people being chipped! :S

I did Photo Hunters today, too. I hope you get a chance to visit.

Oh gosh, what a wonderful idea to write about for the "chipped" theme. Harley and I never go outside (except on our harness and leash or stroller), but we still both got microchipped. If we ever got out, my Mommie fears that we would never be able to find our way home. The microchip is very cheap way to buy a lot of peace of mind.

Great "chipped" theme. You guys are so smart!

We got your "thank you" card yesterday! You didn't have to do that, the shrews were our pleasure!!! It made the PM's day though so thanks to *you*!

Great shout out on the importance of being microchipped. We think it's essential for indoors and outdoors cats. Terrific lasers there Suey - beaming out that important message!

That's a great idea for kitties who go outside and for those that are in bad weather areas.

Mom says thank you so much for the well wishes. Her shoulder is still hurting, but we are trying to visit a little each day.

Wowee for the super laser eyes! I am chipped too. It is required for all kitties in our council to be chipped and vaccinated.
