Photo Hunt- blue

The theme for this week is BLUE.

Our Dad is in the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, which is part of the 3rd Brigade of the Australian Army. Their nickname is the Big BLUE One, and their Battalion colour is Garter BLUE. Dad wears his BLUE t-shirt to do his P.T, and has a BLUE lanyard on his dress uniform.
You can see most of our Dad here (he's incognito!), with his BLUE t-shirt on, while having a rest on our BLUE couch!

This is the badge of 1RAR. It is nicknamed the 'Skippy' badge. The crown on top signifies service to the nation. When it was first designed, it was the Tudor crown, because the Monarch was a male. Now it is the St. Edwards crown, for that is the crown of Queen Elizabeth.

The kangaroo and wattle leaf are on there because they are distinctly Australian. The boomerang is to honour the parent units of 1RAR. The crossed .303 rifles show that it belongs to an infantry regiment. It has been the badge of 1RAR since 1949.

This is the version of the badge that members of 1RAR wear on their hats.

The mascot of 1RAR is a shetland pony, always named Septimus. This one is Septimus Quintus. See how his coat is Garter Blue, like the rest of the Regiment? Along with the Skippy badge, Septimus also has the chevrons to show that he is a Corporal. He is very handsome. Mum got to meet him, and thought he was very cute, except for when he tried to eat her skirt! This photo was taken on the day that they had a march for the 60th birthday of the Regiment.

Finally, this is me. Notice my collar tag? It is also blue, so I match my dad. I am very proud of my dad, and love him very very much.

You should be very, very proud of your Dad! We also love the pony, even if he did try to rat your Mom's skirt!

I thought I had commented a while ago, but one way or another it seems to have disappeared! I said that I have been browsing through your blog, and that the wordless Wednesday post would have lovely for this "blue" theme as well!
You made a wonderful photohunt, and I love all the kitties, they're the lucky ones!

You should be proud of your dad - I have the utmost respect for those who choose to serve their country through military service.

Beautiful blues. Good choice.

(Thanks for dropping by and congrats on the finalist position in the 'Costoom' contest. I voted when I dropped by earlier. Some tough competition there.)

We learned a lot from reading your post! We never knew all those things about the badge, with the different crowns for a king or a queen, and about the shetland pony mascot and all the blue colors! That's furry cool.

Plus, your Dad is a fighting machine! No wonder you are proud.

Wow that is very interesting about the shiny things!!
Lots of my daddas work mates are in the army part time too so we hears lots of stories.. and well where we live when you go to the local shops everybody is wearing army uniforms, so it is interesting to see about the badges etc :)

that blue is so very purrety, and it is a manly colour for your dadda!! this is always a plus!
We do not like the word proud here, but we can understand how well you think of your dadda for doing what he does.
We wish My dadda did something else, but we is still thinks he is a very good man for doing it :))
