See these whacky birds? We live near some of them! They are called a Bush Stone-curlew.
They have a really crazy cry, which they mainly use at night. Some people call curlews the Screaming Woman Bird, and there have even been lots of calls to the police because of them! The nickname may give you a guess as to why!:) They can also stand really really still, and can easily be mistaken for statues.
Our dad has seen some little baby curlews, and he thought they were very very cute. He said they looked like little versions of Big Bird.
Thanks to our mum's dad, who took the second photo on his cool camera (which mum seriously considered hiding until after he left :P).
---Edit---
If you would like to hear a Bush Stone Curlew, there is a video here
on youtube:)

What cool looking birds! Do you play Statues with them? I bet you would win...
Hmmm! Interesting bird! Thank you for showing us this. My human sister volunteers at a bird clinic in the spring and summer, and she loves birdies.
Wowie, we've nefur seen birdies like that before!
Kittyhugs and purrs from MaoMao!
Great photos. We're going to see if we can fid a site that has their cry on it!
My mum saw an interesting bird this week too - perhaps I should post a picture of it too.

Very interesting! We are always interested in feathers!
Wow, now their calls got my attention!
Mom watched the video and I listened. I got very confused and made my big-big eyes. Mom laughed.
But the birds are really cool!

That was cool listening to the birds...I wonder if they taste good?
That is one wonky looking bird and the 'screaming woman' description seems to fit. Yikes.
Head-bonks from Gandalf and Grayson!
Those birdies are kinda cute :)
We like the long legs.
Their cries are like a light version of seagulls, heehee
We hope they do not become extinct too.
Purrs Mickey,Georgia & Tillie
What a neat-o bird! Of course I had to go to the video to hear it. That screaming sound might scare me a little bit at night!
Those are very interesting birds! mom would not go listen to them!
Wow. They're so delicate! I wonder what they taste like...
Those are very cool looking birdies, but I bet their screaming woman sound is pretty scary at night.
