Farewell to a Faithful Friend

We were crushed to hear the devestating news this morning that our beloved friend Yuu-Chan of had to be given his wings. Yuu-Chan, you were a good boy. Your kind and gentle nature shone out of those beautiful eyes of yours and we were lucky to share in it. We send lots of love and hugs to #1, Tommy, Tama-Chan, Sei-Chan and Bibi-Chan.

Rest in Peace Yuu-Chan.

Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week

This week is 's Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week. There are wonderful animals all over the world who are often overlooked for a variety of reasons, including colour, breed and physical handicap. We had a kitten who some of you may remember we had a harder time finding a home for, although the time did not compare to that of some other kitties and woofies who are in shelters and foster homes.

Freddie Weasley was one of the sweetest kittens we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. People were put off from adopting him when they found out he was deaf. There are all sorts of stories about deaf cats- that they are crabby, ill tempered, violent, aggressive and anti-social. We used a fact sheet from as part of our learning about deaf cats, and the key point was finding a way to communicate. A big reason that deaf cats can be seen as grumpy or aggressive is that they aren't aware people are coming up behind them until they are actually touching them. It's therefore not surprising that they would get a bit of a fright. By doing simple things like tapping the couch next to them when they are resting they can feel the vibrations and know that someone is there.

We gave the factsheet to Freddie's new dad when he came looking for an indoor cat to be his buddy while he worked from home. He has used the fact sheet and then expanded on it and has developed a fantastic relationship with his kitty. For example, he calls Freddie for dinner by flashing the kitchen light three times. Freddie's mum and dad are so happy with Freddie that when they decide to bring another cat into their family they have decided they will only adopt a deaf cat.

We know most of the visitors who come to our blog are not from Sydney, but we thought we would follow the example of our friends at and put some names out into the universe. These kitties are from the , the wonderful organisation we fostered Henry, Lottie and Alice Darling and Barney and Dino Rubble for.

This is Hayden. He was abandoned when his family moved out of their home and left him behind. He is a black cat, and at 5 years old some people think he is too old. As he has trust issues and startles easily, he is not very suited to a family with children. He needs a calm patient family who will help him to come out of his shell and respect his boundaries.

Calamity is a 7 year old ginger and white girl. She came to the Society when her family moved into pet-unfriendly housing and had trouble with allergies. Calamity is blind in one eye. She would prefer not to live with another cat, but likes children who have good cat manners. She is an affectionate, playful ladycat. Hayden, Calamity and a host of other cats and kittens are available for adoption from the Cat Protection Society Adoption Centre at 103 Enmore Road, Newtown, Sydney.

Saturated Sausicles

Some of you might remember that last year I had a nasty case of idiopathic cystitis. It was not a fun time. One of the changes mum made was to try and get more water into me. I have lots more wet food in my diet now, which I love, even after Fui has been through and licked all the gravy off.
I am also still enamoured with the fountain mum got just after I was sick. I really enjoy drinking out of the falling water. It's been over a year now, and I haven't shown any symptoms of the cystitis coming back.
Being hydrated is good, kitties!

So Close...

The other week my mum went to our Dad's sister's birthday party. She got her a cyclamen plant. In between getting the plant and going to the party, mum had to come home to take care of a couple of things. Because cyclamens are No Good for cats, she put it up out of my reach. This did not please me.I even tried to laser beam it down, but that didn't work. I went and took out my frustration by chomping on my cat grass... and leaving the resulting mess in a nice puddle at the front door for mum when she got home. Muahahaha!

We're Back!

Hi kitties! We're home safe and sound from Pawpaws, and mum is home from her trip too. Thankyou very much for all the lovely Gotcha Day messages. It's awesome having such great friends. Our mum also says thankyou for the kind messages about her and dad's news.

I also have some more great news. Our stays at Pawpaws have been really good for my relationship with my Saussysister. After our first stay, she started to clean me. That makes me so happy that I dribble. Last night, for the first time, we slept curled up together in my mum's lap. I think she must have secretly been going to Big Sister lessons while we were on holiday.

Have a happy weekend :)
Love Lishy.

A Year Ago Today

One year and one day ago, my friend Greta called my mum to ask for some help with a kitten. Mum brought Harry home that night. The next morning, she called again to say another pair had been found by the same man. Shortly thereafter, I arrived with my sister in my soon-to-be Forever Home. The vet put me at 1 day old max. I had dried gunk on my furs, so my mumcat probably didn't have a chance to clean me up before a person took me, my brother and sister away and put us in the gardens of three adjacent houses. The man who found my brother Harry heard me crying during the night, and kept looking until he found me and Hermione. At that stage, I was known as Ron.I was a pesky kitten from the start. My first poop was bright green! I was a very difficult eater and most of my feeds for the first two weeks were force feeds. I also did not like to poop very often at all, which had my mum very worried. I had a wound on my leg, too, probably from being thrown in the bushes.I was a funny contradiction of a baby kitten. I was both very fragile and very tough. It is a miracle that I survived the first night without food or warmth, and a testament to my fluffy fighting spirit. I am in the back in this photo.I had a few set backs in my progress, but kept overcoming them. I was not a kitten to be kept down for long. I was the smallest of my siblings at less than 100 grams when I first came home, but I was the first to open my eyes. I was also the first to use my litter tray.Today I am strong and tough and mancatly. I am also very very loved, and have added so much to my family. My brother and sister take good care of me, and have taught me a lot. I am lucky to have made lots of friends all over the world. Please come and enjoy my birthday party in my courtyard. We have all sorts of nommy foods to enjoy and games to play. It is my very first Gotcha Day :)

Fashion Friday

We are excited to model our new collar designs. I am looking very mancatly in my red polka dots. It 'pops' nicely against my tabby furs, I think. Suey went for the Pink Retro Nest design. Her first PretaPawte collar was this same design, and we all thought it looked fabulous on her. So she chose the same design again.
And now, presenting Lishy in his big boy collar. Our little rockstar has black stars. Thankyou to Alison at PretaPawte. We are feeling very stylish. We wont be able to visit much in the next couple of weeks as we will be at Pawpaws, but we have scheduled some posts. We hope you have a very fun happy time until we see you again:)
Love Fui.

Plan C

If you can't join them, beat them. Last night, mum and I made the worst set of flat cats ever seen, and they will accompany mum on her trip. Somebody has to keep her in line! We're watching you, mum, even if our eye balls didn't print very well!
